Dedicated to Jane (Tanny) Pansini
Welcome to the page dedicated to the life of my mother, Jane Pansini, or as her closest friends and my father called her, Tanny. I was 5 weeks early and with the expectation of being named Michael. Surprised as another girl, Dad just named me after Mom. Thus, I got the nickname "Janie”.
My mother was the epitome of love, honesty, support, and Christmas. She studied music and pre-med in college, and her love for the sciences and art were deeply instilled in my life. I was six out of seven children. Although the majority of my life was just myself and my younger sister, I witnessed years of Mom's unbound generosity and passion to create seven of everything so no child was left out. I was the one child who loved music and engaged in voice, piano, and Broadway. My mother had told me she played opera music the entire time she was carrying me. I would tell her, because of that, opera was not my first choice. We grew up singing together in choir and harmonizing all the Broadway tunes. Mom got pulled over for speeding and her reason was that she was singing away. I would always have Broadway tunes playing on my days at home, especially in high school. I was Anna in The King and I, and we sang together in the Church Choir for years.
Memories of Joy and Giving
My mother never studied art, yet she loved doing ceramic art and painting. Her biggest project was toll painting on old metal milk canisters in the early 60s. At that time, it wasn’t known that this paint had lead exposure that could be fatal. Unfortunately, it was the cause of my mother’s early demise at the age of 63.
Mom loved Christmas so much, we listened to carols from Nov-February. By the first Sunday in December, our home had a fresh long needle pine tree that we would cut down in Petaluma. The Holidays were filled with music and the smell of delicious Christmas cookies. My niece Jenn has carried on the tradition of her sugar cookies recipe to this day (in the hundreds.) Every Xmas break from school for me was a “full steam ahead” endeavor of wrapping over a hundred gifts! Mom insisted on giving the same number of packages to each child and grandchild. I LOVED it! I’d set up shop and listen to my favorite carols until done days later. There was always that one or more gifts she could not find….. She lived for those days of sharing and giving to those she loved. Boy did she have a great smile!
A Legacy of Care, Art, and Hope.
Now I am at the age of deep reflection, gratitude, and time well spent doing what I enjoy most: singing, painting, hiking, community service, and most of all, time spent with my husband, family, and friends. I have always felt so blessed with parents who both transmitted essential values of honesty, loyalty, and kindness. Today I feel the presence of my mom so often, and it fills me with a deep appreciation for all she and Dad provided for me, so that I too have much to share with others.

I am a retired Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and dedicated most of my life caring for the underserved and immigrant populations in California. Now I hope to expand that human connection by bringing my passion for art and music to many children. I know this endeavor would bring great joy to my mother. She is definitely smiling today.
